I interviewed a soldier who is an 11B. Hopefully this helps you!
Explain your MOS.
Infantrymen (11B) are the soldiers on the front lines working to defend our country against any threats on the ground. You'll capture, destroy, and deter enemy forces, assist in reconnaissance, and help mobilize troops and weaponry to support the mission as the ground combat force.
Are there any requirements to be in this MOS?
There aren't any major requirements to be an 11B. You pass a basic physical and meet the normal requirements to enter into the military.
What did your recruiter tell you about this job before you left for BCT?
"This is the best MOS to have. You will get to fight on the front lines just like in the movies go to all the cool schools and get all the cool gear."
How was your AIT experience?
My AIT experience was great. We spent a lot of time in the woods learning how to be an infantrymen. We did some close quarters combat, patrolling, and base defense exercise.
Are you active or reserves?
I was active for two years and now I'm in the guard.
How long have you been in?
I've been in for 6 years.
What is it like being in that MOS now and was it exactly how your recruiter explained it to be?
Being in my MOS now, it's very different from how we were trained specifically because of the type of war we are fighting today. We don't sleep in the woods and we patrol in a truck (MATVs). We do a lot of keeping the peace type of missions. As for my recruiter, I have been to a few cool schools like airborne and air assault. That's about it. We get the short end of the stick very often and the gear is okay so we usually buy our own.
If you can give recommendations to someone that wants to be in this MOS, what would it be?
Stay motivated and squared away. I would get into tip top physical shape and build your mental toughness. Also, if you really want to do something meaningful, try joining SF or ranger regiment.
